Forty-nineth Weigh-in

I stayed the same this week. And yes, I was initially disappointed. Especially because of all the hard-work I put in this week and the victories I had over making better food choices. However, let's be frank for a moment. If you knew just how much I ate over Christmas and at New Year's I shouldn't be surprised that it's taking a bit longer for all of that weight to go.

But despite all this wonderful logic, I was sitting in the meeting feeling gloomy and like my efforts were for naught. Another member was feeling the same way and admitted to the leader that she had gained two pounds and was sorely disappointed in herself. At this, the leader said to look at the big picture. How much has she lost so far and long has she maintained it for? Those two pounds are nothing compared to that.

And she's right. Often times we get so caught up in the week to week micromanagement of our weight that we forget to look at the big picture. We judge and view ourselves 1 or 2 pounds at a time and we base our success or failure on that alone.

So this week I'm looking at the bigger picture. Though my efforts might not show a tangible result today, I know that cumulatively they're making a difference in the long run. Just as it has in the past and just as it will continue to be in the future.

I just discovered your blog this week, and after your post today, I just wanted to reassure you that you're right about the big picture.

Because I've read your whole blog in a day, I have seen all your weigh ins - some for 1 or 2 pounds, some even for 10ths of a pound. And look at how they've added up since you joined almost a year ago!

You're doing amazing and I'm anxious to see you go closer and closer to your goal.

Keep up the great work!!!! You're very inspiring to me.
